Colour Mode & Resolution

Colour Mode & Resolution

Use CMYK images as much as possible, especially when you need to upload pdf files. This colour mode produces the most consistent colour results across a wide spectrum of printing devices. Remember, when you look at a colour on a screen, it’s not accurately represented as the hue it will be when printed.

Photos uploaded to Facebook or Instagram are automatically resized for storage. We recommend you always use the original images (such as on your computer or camera roll phone) 300 dpi, preferably. There is no limit to the size of the file you can upload. However, the larger the file, the more time is needed to do so.

When uploading images from social media galleries to Treasured Memories editor, you may not notice their proper colour mode or resolution, but don't worry about it. If you receive any warning (red flag) messages about their poor quality, we recommend replacing these photos or just reducing their size in the artwork.

Dimensions & Layout

Dimensions & Layout

When you Design from Scratch or Upload your Design file, the artwork size includes 5mm of ‘bleed’ to allow for a margin of error when trimming your final print. Be sure that you extend all background images out to the full document size. This will ensure your print comes out looking perfect.

Remember: each of our card type has an unique size and cannot be changed. Keep your important content within the safe area. The Safe area ensures that you don’t end up with text or important image content right on the edge of your final printed document.

Do not supply crop marks, trim lines or registration marks in your design. We prefer designs submitted online to be completely free of these marks. Treasured Memories system already includes all necessary print marks automatically.

File Types & Storage

File Types & Storage

We support any JPG, PNG, GIF, AI, TIF, SVG, BMP file types. Still, for the best printing results, it is recommended that you save your final design file as a High-Quality PDF (we especially like PDF/X compliant files). We do not accept any Microsoft Office, e.g. Word or Publisher.

Got a PRINT-READY file? For the best printing results, it is recommended that you save your final design file as a PDF (with embedded fonts) before sending to us for printing. Use the provided guideline files to match the cards dimensions, bleed areas and check other essential print recommendations.

We do not keep your artwork indefinitely! If you create a design using our editor or upload your artwork, we do not guarantee to store it once a job has been printed. If you request a reprint of a previous card, we need to check if the artwork is still available; otherwise, you will have to send us the artwork again or recreate it.

Font Types & Text

Font Types & Text

First, check the available space based on the size of the card. Then, if necessary, you can decrease the font size to fit the text box. But the text still needs to be readable. Be careful if you put text over a photographic background, as the text may be hard to read.

It’s OK to use coloured text in headlines or type above, say, 10 points, but below that, the blurring may be noticeable and won’t look too readable. The same thing happens when you use white or too much lighter text from a coloured background.

You may need to adjust the image more than you expect – always think to yourself, “is it more important to see the image or read the text?” If the text is more important, it may be best not to put it over the photograph. We’d strongly recommend keeping your text equal to or above 10pt.

Image Editor & Adjust

Image Editor & Adjust

Would you like to change the colour of the photo? Reduce the brightness or slightly increase the contrast? Our fantastic editor also offers the option to make essential edits to images without the help of third-party software like Photoshop.

You can find the Edit Image button after selecting the image. It is always visible above the photo. If you create your card using the Design from Scratch category, you will also find this option in the Object Toolbar. Please, check all the options available:

Background: Removes unwanted background colours.
Adjust: Brightness, Saturation, Contrast, Hue and Colour Effects (Sepia and Grayscale).
Crop: Select a specific area of the image.

Proof & Checking

Proof & Checking

Before proceeding with the payment, perform a spell check over your card and do the final proofreading on both pages. Get help from a friend unfamiliar with your design and do a spot check over the grammar, as spell checks don’t always pick up on grammatical errors. We do not correct or modify your artwork.

During edition or in the preview mode, you always can make an eye check about the quality of the images. Avoid at all cost images with excessive blur spots, motion blur, low contrast, and high contrast, mainly dark, grainy, or pixelated photos. Make sure that you also own the copyright to use that uploaded images.

If you plan to upload your own design files, rather than to utilize our customizable online templates, please review the following specifications carefully to ensure that images print sharply, fonts and colours display correctly and that layouts adhere to the correct print specifications. Download the guideline files provided.
